Mid Michigan Collects Brings 25th Anniversary of Art Reach to a
Successful Close - by Ed Fisher
On April 20, over fifty Art Reach patrons gathered at the Art Reach Center
to celebrate the finale of the 25th Anniversary Year of the
organization. Twenty eight pieces of art were on display throughout the
Denison Recital Hall.
From 3:00 to 5:30 pm, Roy Saper of Saper Gallery in East Lansing
provided verbal estimates of the value of over two dozen pieces of art.
He discussed each piece as to its type, style, its good points and bad.
The estimates ran from one dollar to over ten thousand dollars.
There was a break in the discussion so that everyone could enjoy the
exquisite array of food and beverages provided by members of the
Anniversary Committee. This committee planned, and put into action
numerous events, displays, and special activities from the spring of
2006 to this final event.
Roy Saper is an acknowledged expert in the field of art. The Saper
Gallery has been named among the top 100 galleries
in the United States.
He has served as an expert witness at trials involving the authenticity
of works of art. He provides a service of assessing the value of large
art collections or
single items for insurance purposes. Roy is an
engaging speaker and discussed the way works are created, and
differentiated distinctions between original and copies of art.
He encouraged the audience to collect art, but use knowledge gained from
the study of art. He cautioned about the many forgeries available to the
gullible, and how to guard against the unpleasant discovery that a
purchased item was worth much less than the price paid.
The evening concluded with vigorous applause for Mr. Saper, and a final
look at the many pieces of art on display.
