2019 ART WALK CENTRAL Guidelines

Art Walk Central is a unique competition, offering two categories: youth (13-18 years old) and adult (19+). Art Walk Central is not only an art competition – featuring almost 120 artists – it is also a community art infusion! The month-long event offers artists the opportunity to display their art in a public setting, with prizes awarded for jurors and people’s choice. Additionally, everyone is invited to register and vote for his or her favorite piece(s). Throughout the month, there are a wide range of art activities offered for children and adults alike. Art Reach is proud to continue Art Walk Central, as a way to keep art alive and accessible to everyone in the community.

Art Walk Central will be held from August 5-31, 2019, in beautiful Mt. Pleasant Michigan. Over $10,000 in prize money will be awarded.

Venues Registration

February 4-March 1: Venues register at www.artwalkcentral.com. Venues list their amenities, contact information, and a photo of their available space.

Artist Registration

March 4–April 12: Artists register to participate at www.artwalkcentral.com

At registration, artists will

  • Create a Login and Password.

  • Pay registration fee of $35 (adults) or $10 (youth) via PayPal or by credit card

  • Submit photos or a sample piece of your work.

  • Provide dimensions of work

  • Enter an artist statement

  • Agree to the Official Rules for Artists

  • Select a minimum of three potential venues they would like to host their artwork. Venues will be contacted by Art Reach between April 15-26.

Venue will contact artists if they are interested in hosting their work. Artists complete the matching process by making their final selection of venue after receiving acceptance from their chosen venue(s).

Winners of 2018 Art Walk Central are not eligible to win in 2019. However, they may still participate in the competition. Artists may enter only one submission, but it may consist of more than one piece. Multiple pieces will be considered a single entry, to be judged as a whole. All media will be accepted; the more creative you are the better!

Artist/Venue Matching Takes Place:

April 15 – 26: Venues will contact you regarding hosting your work. Artists will receive email from venues. YOU MUST LOG IN TO YOUR ACCOUNT TO REPLY TO THE VENUES. Artists must confirm a venue. If a venue accepts an artist, the artist must log in and reply. When an artist accepts a venue, matching is automatically finalized through the Art Walk Central website.

Once an artist and venue have made a match, it is the ARTIST’S responsibility to set up install times and logistics and de-install dates with the venue.

Important Dates

July 1-31, 2019: Artists may upload a video statement about their entry, including the inspiration, process, or history behind the entry.

July 22, 2019: Artist’s must confirm that the title and medium of their piece is correct in their profile. This information will be used to create the artist cards at each entry.

August 1, 2019: Installation Deadline - All artwork must be installed at the venue.

August 28, 2019: Announcement of Winners: All winners (both Juried Awards and People’s Choice) will be announced at the Art Reach Benefit for the Arts Auction on Wednesday, .

August 31, 2019: Event concludes

September 7, 2019: Deinstallation deadline

Voting and Registration for People’s Choice Awards will begin at 9 am Monday, August 5 and ends at 5 pm on Tuesday, August 27.
