Quilting for Beginners: Easy Street

from $56.75

Join instructor Tanya Ehrsam for this beginner workshop on instructional quilting. Following the “Easy Street” pattern, students will learn to cut and piece their quilt top, covering basics such as accurate measuring and rotary cutting, correct piecing, pressing, and trimming. A future workshop will demonstrate the final layering and quilting process. You will create a functional piece of art that can be used any time of year, depending on the color scheme. You will be provided with a supply list that includes the yardage of cotton fabric needed so the project can be tailored to your color preference. A $10 pattern fee is included in the class tuition.

This workshop will be held from 10 am-2 pm on Friday, June 5, in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway, Mt. Pleasant, MI.

Students should bring their selected fabric and their own sewing machine. If you do not have a machine, Art Reach will provide one. Students should have some basic machine sewing experience. Students are welcome to bring a snack or lunch during the workshop. Open studio time will be provided for students who do not finish their quilt top and need a sewing machine to finish. A follow-up workshop titled “Make A Quilt Sandwich” on June 26 will instruct how to layer and finish your quilt top with machine quilting. Please register separately for follow-up class.

Fabric Requirements for Easy Street are as follows:

  • 11 Dark fat quarters

  • 9 Light fat quarters
