Blind Contour Drawing
Are you the type of person who loves funky and fun artwork? You will love this unique art experience of creating an artwork that embraces imperfections. Contour-line and blind-contour drawings have long been used by artists to teach about observation, to give up trying to control and perfect a drawing. Teacher Annie Croft will walk students through the steps of creating unique contour line drawings, coloring the painting, and adding textures for extra interest. Surrealism: What's in the Colors? Week 2)
Join instructor Cheryl Meyer for an exploration of free painting in watercolor. You’ll experiment with free-form painting and then identify shapes or creatures from what you see in the paint. This two-session class uses watercolor, then pen/marker to create a surreal, dreamlike painting. No experience necessary.

Throughout this course, students will focus on the importance of developing a series of work. We will be discussing why this is important in your development as an artist. You’ll discover how working in a series can broaden and hone your skills. We will touch on Artists’ Biographies, Artists’ Statements, and the difference between the two. You will be guided on how to enter a juried show. Please note- completion of Drawing 1-3 is required to participate in this course.

Harbingers of the Dark: Raven
Summon the spooky season with a series of flying creatures rendered in watercolor! Led by instructor Cheryl Meyer, you’ll focus on capturing the form and personality of birds & bats through expressive painting techniques. Each week in this 3-session course will feature a different harbinger of the dark, and this class will guide you in bringing them to life on paper.
Perfect for beginner to intermediate artists, we’ll explore watercolor fundamentals such as wet-on-wet, layering, and texture while also learning how to sketch dynamic forms, render feathers and wings, and create harmonious backgrounds.

Poe Inspired Short Stories
Eternal fans of writer Edgar Allan Poe are invited to flex their writing skills with instructor Cheryl Meyer. Students will be given prompts and assistance in writing a short story inspired by Poe’s “The Telltale Heart”. The class will read the story, and you will write a short-short story (3 pages or less!) inspired by the reading. All skills welcome!

Crash Course in Charcoal (Week 1)
Join instructor Matthew Grimmer for a 2-week crash course in charcoal drawing. Students will learn the basics of building up a drawing using the properties unique to the medium. Students will learn to draw from life using a still-life setup by the instructor. In the first week, we focus on building loosely and identifying shapes and measurements early on, to establish a strong base for the second week. Here, we will finish our drawing by learning techniques such as line weight, shading, and creating an illusion of depth. This workshop is ideal for anyone looking to explore a new medium or learn to draw from life.

Life Journaling Through Comics
Enhance your journaling practice with art! Students, bring your journals and take notes with artist Matthew Grimmer as he lectures and demonstrates his own techniques, which make drawing simple and fun! Learn to further tell your personal story through the creation of short comics using simple lines and shapes. Students are expected to take personal notes and drawings while the teacher is demonstrating. Just bring a sketchbook or journal and an open mind!

Still Life Sunday
Join us for a relaxed afternoon of creativity and be inspired by a beautiful selection of still-life objects—fruits, flowers, textures, and more by artist Matthew Grimmer. This workshop enables you to capture a unique, season-inspired still life through painting, drawing, or mixed media. The goal is to have fun, experiment, and let your creativity flow freely! This is intended to provide an open studio opportunity to get together with friends or like-minded artists. Students may bring their own art supplies, or Art Reach will provide assorted media to select from, including graphite, colored pencils, charcoal, acrylics, watercolors, and assorted paper.

The class will emphasize personal expression and creativity, allowing you to capture the essence and beauty of the natural world through your unique perspective.
Throughout the course, you will work on larger watercolor paper, providing ample space to bring your vision to life. Instruction will be centered on developing the finer details within your chosen landscapes, capturing those tricky gold and yellow hues of fall, enabling you to enhance the depth and realism of your paintings.
While prior watercolor painting experience is recommended, it is not required to participate in this workshop.

Handbuilding in Clay (Week 1)
Join instructor Emily Gunning for a tactile exploration of handbuilding in clay. Over this 6-week course, students will explore various methods of building functional or decorative clay vessels without the need for a pottery wheel. Pinch pots, slab, and coil construction will be covered, as well as various methods of achieving surface texture and form for a solid foundation in pottery construction. Projects will be fired off-site and ready for glazing at the final session. All materials are provided, and no prior experience is required. Just bring your curiosity and willingness to get your hands dirty!
Supply and kiln fees are included in tuition.

Wee Wednesdays
Toddlers (and parents!) are invited to join us for Wee Wednesdays! Wee Wednesdays is a bi-monthly program held from 10 to 11 am on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. During each session, wee ones will develop skills in art, reading, critical thinking, and tactile exploration. Each session will be a new project created on-site for your little ones to take home and enjoy!

No One Paints Alone
Join us for a “Wickedly” good time with friends of the hit musical. Led by instructor Brenda O’Brien, students will be guided in painting the classic imagery of our favorite villain. Plein Air at the Greenhouse
If the chill in the air has you wishing for warmer days, get refreshed with a dose of greenery and painting. Cheryl Meyer will lead you through the art of watercolor painting “en plein air” at Central Michigan University’s Greenhouse, for a serene atmosphere of warmth and comfort. She will guide you in the best practices of watercolor painting while demonstrating how to capture the light and composition that makes plein air so special. Students should bring a camp chair, preferably with a cup holder. All painting supplies will be provided.

Introduction to Linocut (Week 1)
Join us for an Introduction to Linocut course and explore the world of relief printing! In this two-week course, you’ll learn how to carve designs into linoleum blocks and turn your creations into beautiful prints. Perfect for beginners and experienced artists alike, instructor Emily Gunning will guide you step-by-step through the carving, inking, and printing processes. By the end of the class, you’ll have your own unique art pieces and the skills to keep exploring this expressive medium.
In this two-week course, you'll learn the fundamentals of relief printing with linoleum.
Class 1: Focuses on carving and transforming your designs into a relief medium.
Class 2: Covers printing, including single-color and multi-color techniques.

Art Reach of Mid Michigan is excited to host November’s Kids & Culture from 10 am until noon on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 111 E. Broadway in downtown Mt. Pleasant.
In celebration of National Write a Novel Month, the Art Reach Teen Advisory Group will guide participants through a hands-on bookmaking activity where you can design, create, and bind your very own book. Choose from colorful covers and pages, then use creative prompts to fill your book with stories, drawings, and ideas.
Plus, add a fun finishing touch by designing custom buttons inspired by your characters or book covers using our button maker!
Kids & Culture is a free, family-friendly program on the 2nd Saturday of each month. The programming is focused on bringing cultural opportunities to kids. Each event features hands-on activities, free admission, and the opportunity to learn more about featured art, music, dance, and so much more!

Club Create is a Michigan Arts Access program for adults with disabilities. Club Create provides opportunities for adults with disabilities to have hands-on experiences in the arts provided by professional artists. Club members participate in an art experience at each meeting, as well as have time to socialize with other club members. Club Create of Mid Michigan meets 5:30-7 pm on the second Thursday of each month. Caregivers are welcome to participate as well.

Parade of Trees: Auction & Ugly Sweater Night
Celebrate the season with us at Parade of Trees Auction & Ugly Sweater Night from 5:30 to 8 pm Friday, November 14 at the Little Flower Barn in Lake Isabella. This festive evening is filled with laughter, friendly competition, and holiday cheer. Guests will enjoy delicious local cuisine, live holiday music, and the excitement of both live and silent auctions featuring beautifully decorated trees, wreaths, and décor. Holiday Fused Glass
Join instructor Penny Leathley for a jolly exploration of fused glass. To commemorate the holiday, students will select from festive seasonal forms, colorful rods & frits, and utilize simple snipping tools on glass to create beautiful and functional miniature artworks. All supplies will be provided to create two small hanging suncatchers or ornaments, and projects will be fired off-site to be picked up at a later date. Holiday Dried Botanical Creations
Join instructor Jenny Clark for a festive seasonal exploration of the natural world through pressed botanicals. Jenny will provide an assortment of floral and foliar specimens already pressed and dried, to be artfully arranged as trees or wreaths in framed artworks. As every specimen is unique, so are the resulting artworks. Students will be guided in best practices for pressing their own botanicals to continue their journey in this medium. Gardening and nature enthusiasts will be delighted to have beautiful artworks displaying the intricate details and vibrant colors of the natural world preserved in glass. All supplies are provided.

Alcohol Ink: Florals
Dive into the vibrant world of alcohol inks with instructor Judi Steffke in this beginner-friendly class designed to spark your imagination and ignite your creative spirit! Alcohol inks are a bold, expressive medium known for their fluidity, unpredictability, and stunning, abstract effects. Whether you're an experienced artist or trying something new, this class offers a fun and relaxed environment to explore the magic of inks on non-porous surfaces, such as Yupo paper, ceramic tiles, or glass. This class will offer themed sessions recreating imagery on ceramic tiles, and will be finished with a spray-on topcoat for durability.

Coiled Rope Bowl Workshop
Join instructor Tanya Ehrsam for a fun fiber workshop creating coiled rope bowls. Perfect for using up that fabric stash, strips of fabric are wrapped, coiled, and sewn into functional, art-forward vessels to be used or decoratively displayed. Rope bowls make a great handmade gift for loved ones!
You will be provided assorted fabrics, or you may bring cotton fabrics of your own to suit your color preference. You are welcome to bring your sewing machine, or Art Reach will provide a machine if needed. Only basic sewing machine experience is needed, and all supplies are provided.

Alcohol Ink Holly Berries
Dive into the vibrant world of alcohol inks with instructor Judi Steffke in this beginner-friendly class designed to spark your imagination and ignite your creative spirit! Alcohol inks are a bold, expressive medium known for their fluidity, unpredictability, and stunning, abstract effects. Whether you're an experienced artist or trying something new, this class offers a fun and relaxed environment to explore the magic of inks on non-porous surfaces, such as Yupo paper, ceramic tiles, or glass. Surrealism: What's in the Colors? Week 1)

Test the waters with oil pastel, a low-mess, approachable medium with instructor Annie Croft. Painting Dark in Watercolor
Capture the spooky season by learning to paint blacks and dark shadows in watercolor. FreakFest 2025
Join us in the Mt. Pleasant Town Center from noon–5 pm Saturday, October 18 for a community celebration full of art and spooky fun! Activities will rotate in two sessions, from 12–2:30 pm and 2:30–5 pm, offering different creative projects for all ages. Test your skills in the straw maze or a game of corn hole, then take the stage for the costume contests: ages 0–17 at 1:30 pm, ages 18 and older at 3 pm, and group entries at 4:15 pm.
FreakFest is free to attend and open to all ages, so bring your friends and family, dress in your best costume, and enjoy an afternoon of creativity and festive fun!

Cemetarium Workshop
Celebrate the spooky season with a Halloween-inspired terrarium class. Instructor Kim Bigard will guide you in crafting coffins and headstones, followed by artfully arranging natural materials and seasonal decor in a glass terrarium for a seasonal display. Students can choose to include living terrarium plants for an eerie dose of greenery to keep the spirit alive past the season. All supplies are provided to create an 8-inch or 12-inch open terrarium.

Neurographic Art Workshop
Join instructor Annie Croft for an exploration of Neurographic Art. This creative method is a way of drawing that allows you to create from the inside out. It allows you to transform stress, thoughts, or worries into free-form lines that create a beautiful piece of art. The work time turns into a time to de-stress and reduce anxiety. Students can choose from a variety of media to make their individual creations. No experience necessary! Students can relax to quiet classical music, or you’re welcome to bring earbuds to listen to personal music during the individual work times. Falling for Fused Glass
Join instructor Penny Leathley for an autumn-time exploration of fused glass. To commemorate the shifting season, students will select from iconic fall forms, colorful rods, and frits and utilize simple snipping tools on glass to create beautiful and functional miniature artworks. All supplies will be provided to create two small hanging suncatchers, and projects will be fired off-site to be picked up at a later date. Held in partnership with Just Fab Farms, instructor Deborah Clark will guide us in painting a 16×20 canvas in acrylic with our favorite fluffy friends as models. Painters will have the chance to meet and pet the resident cattle as well. We will work from the shade of a tree and have pop-up tents available if needed. All art supplies will be provided, but participants should bring a camp chair, water, sunblock, and bug spray if needed.

Kids & Culture
Forest Hill Nature Area will host October's Kids & Culture from 10 am until noon on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 11297 N Rich Rd, Alma, MI.
Participants will learn about bird migration, including banding demonstrations, crafts, scavenger hunts, and activities for families
Kids & Culture is a free, family-friendly program on the 2nd Saturday of each month. The programming is focused on bringing cultural opportunities to kids. Each event features hands-on activities, free admission, and the opportunity to learn more about featured art, music, dance, and so much more!
Attendees at each Kids & Culture 2025 event will be entered into a monthly drawing for (4) day passes to the Soaring Eagle Waterpark in Mt. Pleasant.

Mini Acrylic Cuties
Join instructor Annie Croft for a fun foray in acrylic painting- in miniature! Tiny paintings of fun florals and cute kawaii creatures will capture the essence of acrylic painting, just in a bite-sized package. Students will learn some helpful tips for acrylic painting in general, and will leave with two tiny masterpieces, perfect to use as bookshelf artworks or refrigerator magnets. This is a great opportunity for adults to create alongside their young artists! You may select from individual registration or pair up for a discount.

Club Create of Mid Michigan
Club Create is a Michigan Arts Access program for adults with disabilities. Club Create provides opportunities for adults with disabilities to have hands-on experiences in the arts provided by professional artists. Club members participate in an art experience at each meeting, as well as have time to socialize with other club members. Club Create of Mid Michigan meets 5:30-7 pm on the second Thursday of each month. Caregivers are welcome to participate as well.

Ceramic Jack-o'-Lantern Workshop (Week 2)
Unleash your creativity and embrace the spirit of the season in our Ceramic Jack-o'-lantern Workshop! Join instructor Emily Gunning in this fun-filled, tactile experience where you'll sculpt a charming pumpkin votive from clay. Perfect for both beginners and experienced artists, you’ll be guided through each step, from shaping and carving to glazing. Leave with a unique decorative piece that adds a warm glow to your fall decor or makes a thoughtful gift.
In the first class session, we will learn to build and carve with clay. The second session will feature a demo on glazing and include time for you to glaze and decorate your piece. Your creations will be fired and ready for pickup at Art Reach the following week, just in time to enhance your Halloween or Thanksgiving decorations.

Harbingers of the Dark: Barn Owl
Summon the spooky season with a series of flying creatures rendered in watercolor! Led by instructor Cheryl Meyer, you’ll focus on capturing the form and personality of birds & bats through expressive painting techniques. Each week in this 3-session course will feature a different harbinger of the dark, and this class will guide you in bringing them to life on paper.
Perfect for beginner to intermediate artists, we’ll explore watercolor fundamentals such as wet-on-wet, layering, and texture while also learning how to sketch dynamic forms, render feathers and wings, and create harmonious backgrounds.

Fundamentals of Drawing 4 (Week 4)
This is the final course of the four-part Fundamentals of Drawing series with acclaimed artist and instructor Julie Tyslicky. Throughout this course, students will focus on the importance of developing a series of work. We will be discussing why this is important in your development as an artist. You’ll discover how working in a series can broaden and hone your skills. We will touch on Artists’ Biographies, Artists’ Statements, and the difference between the two. You will be guided on how to enter a juried show. Please note- completion of Drawing 1-3 is required to participate in this course.

Paper Pieced Star Flowers Wall Hanging
Join instructor Tanya Ehrsam for an introduction to paper piece block quilting. Following a star flower pattern, you will create a quilt block wall hanging utilizing a paper piecing technique. Students will be provided with a supply and cutting list, along with the yardage needed of cotton fabric, so the project can be tailored to their color preference. The project will be ready to layer, bind, and quilt at home for project completion.

Students should bring their selected fabric and their own sewing machine. If you do not have a machine, Art Reach will provide one. Students should have some prior experience with machine sewing.

Enshrine your summer adventures with a thoughtful memory box for future safekeeping! Instructor Annie Croft will provide shadowboxes and assistance with artful arrangement to utilize your collected keepsakes, ephemera, and assorted treasures. Colored Pencil Drawing: Advanced/Intermediate (Week 4)
This is a recurring 4-week class for students who wish to hone their colored pencil skills further with artist and instructor Julie Tyslicky. Class is dedicated to advanced ideas and rotating projects, as well as critique for serious students building a portfolio and looking to exhibit their work. Students MUST have completed Intro to Colored Pencils with Julie Tyslicky to enroll in this class.

Hosted at the picturesque Proud Lake Recreation Area on the Huron River, you can enjoy the fall colors while hiking, relaxing by the campfire, and of course, creating art. Two nights of lodging are provided at the Proud Lake River Hawk Lodge, as well as meals, supplies, and art instruction. A variety of media and projects will be explored so there is something for everyone!
Camp will be held October 3-5 at River Hawk Lodge at 3500 Wixom Rd, Commerce Twp, MI.
Lodging options include limited single-occupancy rooms or double occupancy. You may make a note of your preferred roommate during registration. Overnight lodging at the River Hawk Lodge is not required to participate in activities. Meals will be included for day campers as well.
